MIG and MAG welding equipment uses a continuously fed wire electrode, while some machines also support flux-cored or other welding processes. Compare inverter welders by their actual supported modes, power requirements, output range, duty cycle and suitable wire sizes. A unit advertised for both gas and gasless use may require different consumables and polarity arrangements.

Before purchase, check whether a compatible wire-feed torch, earth lead, gas regulator or shielding-gas setup is supplied. Match the wire, shielding process and settings to the material and thickness. Work with suitable ventilation, a welding helmet, protective gloves and fire precautions, and consult the machine manual for proper installation.
