A drill press helps hold a compatible drill bit in a fixed vertical working arrangement for suitable workshop tasks. Compare benchtop models by chuck capacity, spindle travel, adjustable speed range, table dimensions and available motor power. The correct speed depends on the bit diameter and material, so higher RPM is not suitable for every drilling job.

Before purchase, verify the machine’s voltage, base or bench mounting requirements and compatible bit shanks. Secure the material with proper clamps or a vise rather than holding it by hand. Check spindle alignment, guard the rotating chuck and remove the chuck key before switching on the machine. Follow the manual for maintenance and drilling limits.
